Private studio in Slovakia

This week the electrician came and installed the basic cables, that is, the ones that need to go from the fusebox and through the outer and inner studio walls. LP0670.jpg A hole was drilled and all the cables were fed through. Because I had to twist the live and neutral wires, the cables have no she...

This week was all about baffle boxes. First, cutting all 48 pieces in order to make 4 boxes. LP0632.jpg Here is the first one, a loose-standing test fit. Double-layers of 18mm MDF. This first baffle box weighs 38kg. It has one side and the top missing because the studio's wall and ceiling will do th...

LP0628.jpg Another week gone. 600 Euros (£550, $650) has been spent on plenty of plasterboard and OSB for the ceiling, MDF for the 4 baffle boxes, plus a new circular saw. I am working slower because I am working alone but that suits me as I can measure and re-measure to be really sure before cutti...

Double Garage design - East Sussex

John, I posted in my topic yesterday. We are approaching the end of the isolation phase. Then will start the acoustic treatment phase so I have quite a way to go yet. I may take a break and as the builder prefers outdoor jobs during the summer and we can start phase 2 with fresh oomph over the winte...

Now I have enough twisted cable to be able to call the electrician to put in all the cables that need to enter the studio from the fuse box in the hallway. LP0620cables.jpg This week's real work consisted of just one day when Joseph, the builder, and I added more plasterboard to the front wall, thre...

Double Garage design - East Sussex

1554 It’s funny how long it takes for the blindingly obvious to occur ... I too find there are times when building a studio can feel like a Chinese puzzle (or a Rubik cube) - there must be a way but it takes a fair bit of faffing around to find it. Well done on making use of your time, Tom. Even if...

New build small size high isolation project

1567 May I ask if you developed a preference for any particular type of caulk? I am not Tom but if it is of any help, Stuart posted his recommendations in post no. 17 in my studio build topic ( here ). I could not find any of those where I am but I am using MAPEFLEX PU45 with great results. I have ...

Where is Administration digistar.cl??

Either wait for him to read your topic, here, or send a PM to Soundman2020. He was on the forum 3 days ago, which is quiet for him, but he could easily be snowed under with work for clients.

New build small size high isolation project

Nice report, Tom. Thanks.

I do like your kitchen worktop and great news about the TL so far. It can only get better. I know exactly what you mean about the finances. I read that builds usually end up exceeding the budget. I hope you find some help as doing it all yourself can be tough.

A quiet week which I think shows that we are no longer the ongoing full-time project for these professionals so they fit us in spare moments. The builder came for half a day and we put up as much of the second layer of plasterboard on the walls as we could. We can't go higher as the ceiling needs to...

1537 And assistance from the lady of the house too! Indeed; she appeared twice in post #5 on page 1. Miriam is a musician (piano, guitar, vocals) too so just because I enjoy the build and technical aspects that should not exclude her in any way. I want her to feel it is just as much her studio as i...

The first sign of life after 6 weeks of lockdown was the electrician and his son for 1 hour. They came and wired up everything to complete the toilet and kitchen areas. Something is now finished: hurrah! LP0567.jpg Miriam, my wife, and I kept ourselves busy by putting insulation above the frame that...

I am looking forward to seeing your pictures (including, I hope, a plan view) as it sounds like a great project.

Jennifer, what I did in my last studio was to not use grilles at all. Here (top photo) is the duct delivering fresh air over the top of the AC and the stale air exit duct (second photo) has two entry points without grilles, half hidden behind the cloud. So far my plan is to do the same in my new pla...
