I should have been clearer about the SPL results from above about 500Hz in the room below, there may or may not have been an effect from the isopod, I just couldn't measure it because the sound had disappeared into the ambient noise above those frequencies. I could feel the shelf & frame the spe...

I'm trying to discover if having the monitors bolted to the wall will put more sound into the house structure than the current setup, which is the monitors on Genelec isopods on speaker stands. To this end I compared a monitor bolted to its shelf within the soffit, to the monitor sitting on the Gene...

Up All Nite Studio - 2022 [Control Room]
Nice one! About 8 years ago I made lots of absorbers with metal corner bead for the front face. The metal bead looks brilliant and very professional under self coloured fabric (wood doesn't). I found working with that corner bead for this purpose a major headache though. I was worried about sharp ed...

I've built the shell of the ventilation supply plenum from 18mm OSB and done a test fit. 2024-02-01 12.31.07.jpg 2024-02-01 12.26.27.jpg 2024-01-31 17.35.42.jpg It fits entirely within the soffit structure and does the following; 1) Routes the airflow from the grille in the knee wall to the side of ...

Ive Been Planning This Garage Studio for 10 Years!
I made an access hatch in a ceiling for changing air filters. There may be easier ways to achieve this, but it worked. I used 8 screws and a gasket to ensure it was airtight. Details here:

Thanks Glenn, that's a good benefit it has in preventing the insulation from getting compacted, I hadn't thought of that.
Cheers!

Progress has been slow because of using the room for recording, and also Christmas and new year. Here's the latest update. 2024-01-02 19.38.29.jpg I've attached the ventilation plenum to the wall vent, which has a 200mm diameter duct flange for the room ventilation. I have several options for routin...

The 90° turns matter yes. Here's a quote from a post on another thread about how I calculated the pressure loss for one of my silencers. Plug in your own values taking special care of the different measurement units involved. Here's a direct link to the post, and the thread also has some good inform...

Indeed, these clips were certainly not cheap but you can tell they are quality items when you start working with them. Thanks for the reference to Kinetics Noise as well, noted. Cheers! Jennifer

Cheers Glenn. You can identify the brand and type from these photos - I'm impressed! For the benefit of others, they are WIC-1 Acoustic Braces supplied by Mason UK ltd. To my surprise they were happy to supply small quantities, something to bear in mind for the future as they have other quality prod...

The sway braces arrived so I was able to carry on building the soffit structure. The leftmost vertical is the one with the sway brace. I left a small gap between the top of this and the ceiling / rafter so they can move relative to each other if necessary. 2023-11-28 18.10.30.jpg I had to make a cou...

Your idea of putting soft rubber under the sole plates was genius Glenn. I cut up some neoprene wraps people use when they have a sore joints, and stuck them on with double sided tape. Now the plate that was on a slightly uneven floor no longer creaks when I stand on it. And we absolutely want to ke...
