Indeed, these clips were certainly not cheap but you can tell they are quality items when you start working with them. Thanks for the reference to Kinetics Noise as well, noted. Cheers! Jennifer

Cheers Glenn. You can identify the brand and type from these photos - I'm impressed! For the benefit of others, they are WIC-1 Acoustic Braces supplied by Mason UK ltd. To my surprise they were happy to supply small quantities, something to bear in mind for the future as they have other quality prod...

The sway braces arrived so I was able to carry on building the soffit structure. The leftmost vertical is the one with the sway brace. I left a small gap between the top of this and the ceiling / rafter so they can move relative to each other if necessary. 2023-11-28 18.10.30.jpg I had to make a cou...

Your idea of putting soft rubber under the sole plates was genius Glenn. I cut up some neoprene wraps people use when they have a sore joints, and stuck them on with double sided tape. Now the plate that was on a slightly uneven floor no longer creaks when I stand on it. And we absolutely want to ke...

LOL!
That's an excellent idea about the soft rubber, especially as the floor is not 100% level. I will make it so.
Cheers!

I've been busy and really didn't want to rush the process of fixing of the soffit structure sole plate to the floor, so it took a bit to get round to doing it. Had I been able to screw straight down through the plate into the subfloor it would've been easy, but doing this would have ruined the hardw...

Thanks Glenn, that's useful to know. I cut the sole plate for the soffit structure this morning before a session. First I measured and marked the dimensions onto masking tape on the floor, then cut the stud wood to size. Working out the correct angles to mitre the baffle face corners was a bit of a ...

The build has begun, thought I'd share something I've been pondering. The wood coloured beams in this picture represent the existing house structure. The red stud represents the verticals in the soffit structure. truss.JPG My design has the red beam stopping 6mm or so short of the sloped ceiling. It...

Good to see you back and also getting back into the studio build. I know John Brandt has been subjecting many standard acoustic designs and assumptions to laboratory tests recently and revised his thoughts accordingly. It's great that you have the opportunity to take advantage of this. KH310 speaker...

Thanks Glenn, good plan, I already have one of those. Thanks for the swiss cheese tip Stuart, that makes things much simpler. I had assumed one would keep the holes as few and as small as possible on the speaker box to prevent sound "leaking" out as much as possible, but I suppose the insu...

Thanks Glenn. With that in mind I'll proceed with the current plan and attempt to test it to make sure there are is no significant structure borne transmission. Do you know if there's a reliable way to test for this? I imagine it might be crudely done by running a slow sine sweep through the speaker...

Thank you Stuart and Glenn, your posts are very helpful and have opened up some significant avenues of thought. I'd like to explore some questions if I may. Please don't think I'm being dismissive, it's more about expanding my understanding of the acoustic properties of this structure. With this in ...

Thanks Glenn. I've built one speaker box from 18mm OSB. Later on I'll beef this up by adding two layers of 5kg/m2 MLV to the outside. 2023-10-18 14.32.19.jpg 2023-10-18 13.14.19.jpg Drilling holes for the mounting bolts in the correct locations was quite challenging. The bottom bolt is 3/8" UNC...
